About the role
Under general supervision, assist with the installation, configuration, administration, maintenance, and monitoring of the County’s enterprise technology infrastructure and server infrastructure using industry standard protocols and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, administer, secure, monitor, maintain, troubleshoot, optimize, and continuously improve enterprise infrastructure including network, server, virtualization, storage, identity, backup and recovery, cloud-connected, telecommunications support, and related technologies.
- Monitor infrastructure performance, capacity, availability, resiliency, and security; investigate alerts, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
- Lead or participate in infrastructure upgrades, migrations, modernization initiatives, technology refreshes, disaster recovery planning, and implementation of new technologies.
- Support log generation, collection, retention, and reporting from network, server, and related systems to assist with operational monitoring, audits, and investigations.
- Assist with the implementation and maintenance of identity and access controls, including authentication mechanisms, role-based access, and least-privilege principles for network and server systems.
- Travel to County sites to install, configure, repair, and maintain network and server related equipment and related infrastructure.
- Train end users as needed.
- Maintain and supplement current documentation; maintain and supplement records of network, server, and related hardware inventory and security.
- Interact with PC and network vendors and contractors.
- Continue professional development by maintaining and advancing job-related knowledge, skills, and abilities using provided educational resources.
- Provide support for identity, authentication, access control, monitoring, and logging systems associated with network and server infrastructure, and assist with compliance-related operational requirements applicable to local government IT environments.
- Provide technical support to Telecommunications in the implementation, operation, and maintenance of telecommunications-related network and server infrastructure.
- Provide technical support to help-desk and PC technicians with all aspects of PC, printer, and other hardware installation, configuration, administration, monitoring, and maintenance.
- Provide technical support and training for users accessing network and server resources.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Knowledge of federal, state, and county laws, rules, regulations, practices, and procedures related to information technology.
- Knowledge of information technology best practices for network, server, and PC hardware and software installation, configuration, administration, and maintenance.
- Knowledge of industry-standard information technology best practices for physical and logical security.
- Knowledge of enterprise networking, server administration, virtualization, storage systems, identity and access management.
- Knowledge of cloud-connected infrastructure, cybersecurity principles, disaster recovery, business continuity, enterprise monitoring, automation, change management, and applicable information security standards and regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge of desktop operating systems and support.
- Knowledge of update and patch management and deployment.
- Knowledge of anti-malware, anti-spam, and related strategies and technologies.
- Knowledge of PC and mobile device management.
- Knowledge of customer service/public relations practices.
- Skill in automating network and server monitoring and maintenance tasks.
- Skill in prioritizing, scheduling, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating work.
- Skill in evaluating, analyzing, planning, and implementing new and/or enhanced software and hardware.
- Skill in analyzing and resolving customer/client needs.
- Skill in monitoring and troubleshooting servers, PCs, and peripherals.
- Skill in providing technical support and training to staff and end users.
- Skill in utilizing verbal and written communication to develop reports, training, and support end users in problem resolution.
- Skill in utilizing customer service/public relations techniques when responding to inquiries and complaints.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Skill in effectively communicating in both oral and written form.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and a valid driver’s license.
- OR an Associate’s Degree and two (2) years of direct work experience in server and network administration support. A valid driver’s license is required.
- OR the equivalent of a high school diploma and four (4) years of direct work experience in server and network administration support. A valid driver’s license is required.
Additional Requirements:
- Prior to operating a County-owned vehicle, all employees are required to complete the HC Defensive Driving course and/or an Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) provided at the department level.
- Demonstrated proficiency administering enterprise infrastructure technologies and the ability to independently analyze, implement, troubleshoot, secure, and support complex information technology systems.
- Testing and certification may be required to demonstrate minimum knowledge, skill, and ability.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Basic working knowledge and experience with highly available industry systems is preferred but not required.
- Relevant industry certifications are preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Work requires long periods of attention to detail, extensive computer keyboarding, and occasional lifting, bending, kneeling, stooping, or crawling to maintain, repair, install, or connect personal computers, server and network-related hardware, and peripherals weighing up to thirty (30) pounds.
- Ability to drive an automobile.
Schedule
- All positions within Hamilton County Government are considered work in-person and require regular and punctual attendance.
- All positions may require work on holidays or weekends.
- Irregular hours and shift work may be required, including possible extension of shift hours, at times with short notice.
