About the role
As a Network Engineer II in the Operations Service Center (OSC), you will primarily support internal and customer physical and virtual networking, as well as firewall management. This role requires a fundamental understanding of networking specialties, including automation, and a commitment to continuous technical and professional growth. The OSC operates 24x7x365, so shift work is required.
Responsibilities
- Be part of a 24x7x365 Operations Service Center and remain flexible in availability as needed.
- Troubleshoot and support networking concepts and protocols such as: BGP, OSPF, VLAN/PVLAN, STP, HSRP/VRRP, IP sub-netting, and routing while expanding your knowledge of advanced technologies.
- Configure, test, and troubleshoot platforms like ASR 9000 and Nexus 7000–9000 series.
- Engineer and test DDoS and traffic mitigation techniques and solutions.
- Demonstrate current industry knowledge in peering/IX/NAP management, network architectures, security protocols, and network scaling.
- Work with Cisco routing and switching platforms, including Catalyst 6500/7600, ASR 9000, and Nexus.
- Manage assigned tickets to ensure SLA compliance and customer satisfaction.
- Troubleshoot network port configuration issues.
- Understand prefix and access lists, and interpret traceroutes.
- Create A, C, and MX records using basic DNS knowledge.
- Maintain and troubleshoot VPNs, including checking Phase 1 and Phase 2.
- Triage and escalate tickets according to QTS policy.
- Conduct firewall rule changes.
Requirements
- BS degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Five or more years of progressive IT engineering experience.
- Three or more years of professional network engineering experience.
- Solid proficiency with at least two of the following protocols: BGP, OSPF, HSRP, EIGRP, MPLS.
- Solid understanding of anti-DDoS and IPS/IDS solutions.
- CCNA certification (or equivalent).
- US Citizenship (required by law due to federal customer contracts).
Preferred Qualifications
- Two or more years of experience with a service provider, preferably in a data center environment.
- CCNP certification.
- Experience working with network security components such as firewalls, VPNs, load balancers, and IPS/IDS.
- Advanced skill level with Cisco iOS, iOS-XR, and/or Nexus OS (NX-OS).
- Hands-on experience configuring, testing, and troubleshooting Cisco routing, switching, and security platforms like Catalyst 6500/7600, Nexus 9000/7000, and ASR 9000.
