About the role
Reporting to the IT Lead – North America, the Network Administrator will play a key role in maintaining, securing, and enhancing Codan Group’s network and systems infrastructure. Based in Ashburn, this role is responsible for the day-to-day operational delivery of network services while also contributing to projects that drive secure, reliable, and efficient technology improvements across the organization. This is a hands-on, technically focused role that works closely with the wider Group Systems team, internal stakeholders across global business units, and external vendors.
Responsibilities
- Managing and maintaining enterprise firewall environments, including policy design, rule management, firmware updates, and security hardening.
- Ensuring reliability and performance across core network infrastructure, including switches, routers, wireless networks, and VPN technologies.
- Applying and validating network security controls, including firmware updates, vulnerability remediation, access management, and compliance with security standards.
- Executing planned network changes, upgrades, and configuration updates accurately and on schedule.
- Configuring, installing, and maintaining networking hardware, software, and communications equipment across local and remote (overseas) sites.
- Providing remote and onsite systems, server, and desktop support, including patching and upgrades to address vulnerabilities and performance issues.
- Collaborating with internal stakeholders and external service providers while supporting user-facing helpdesk tickets related to network and systems.
Requirements
- Advanced hands-on experience administering enterprise firewall platforms, including policy creation, rule review, security hardening, firmware upgrades, and threat mitigation.
- Extensive knowledge of firewall appliances and a solid understanding of networking principles (LAN/WAN).
- Hands-on experience with networking, wireless, security appliances, and virtualization tools.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft operating systems and applications.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize competing demands.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills with a collaborative mindset.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.
- Ability to travel domestically up to 10%, including occasional travel to Washington State for team engagement and project support.
