About the role
The Network Administrator reports to the Director of IT Infrastructure and Operations and operates within the Infrastructure Services area of the Information Technology department. Responsibilities include designing, installing, securing, monitoring, maintaining, and supporting the College’s network and telecommunications infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Design, install, secure, monitor, maintain, and support the College’s network and telecommunications infrastructure, including structured cabling.
- Provide primary support for network management tools such as Aruba Central, Aruba ClearPass, SonicWall Firewall, and NEC PBX.
- Monitor network performance and support troubleshooting efforts using remote management and monitoring tools like Aruba Central and PRTG.
- Provide day-to-day support to ensure network and telecom equipment operates correctly.
- Review and update VLAN and IP address schemas to support the needs of IT and the College.
- Analyze network activity and problems to discover and prevent systematic errors and vulnerabilities.
- Perform and test network configuration backups and restores to ensure recovery from errors or outages.
- Update and maintain documentation of network configurations, cabling layouts, and fiber maps.
- Participate in updating network policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with the IT Security and Compliance Team to ensure network security best practices.
- Collaborate with the Systems Administrator in support of network services such as DNS, DHCP, and RADIUS.
- Work closely with Facilities in support of Access Control Systems and Surveillance Cameras.
- Monitor alerts and emails and respond to emergencies in a timely manner.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- B.S. in Computer Science or Information Technology or equivalent experience.
- At least 3 years of relevant work experience as a network technician, network engineer, network administrator, or similar role.
- Experience implementing, managing, and troubleshooting network infrastructure devices such as switches, routers, wireless controllers, wireless access points, and firewalls.
- Working knowledge of network protocols and network routing protocols.
- Network certifications preferred.
