Necropsy Technician

About the role

The Necropsy Technician I assists with the preparation and performance of all necropsy functions in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), and company regulations. They also provide support in histology processes to sustain the highest quality results.

Responsibilities

• Prepare for upcoming studies or projects
• Perform necropsy tasks including tissue identification and dissection according to SOP
• Conduct organ weights
• Enter electronic data with gross lesion descriptions
• Perform animal euthanasia
• Trim tissues per SOP and NIEHS guidelines
• Embed tissues per SOP using tissue processors
• Document data and perform QC per GLP guidelines
• Train and work on cross-department tasks relating to in vivo toxicology and histology
• Bag and store tissues
• Perform tissue change-outs
• Work in a team environment with a professional and positive attitude
• Perform other duties as needed

Requirements

• H.S. diploma or equivalent (minimum)
• B.S. degree in Biology or related field (preferred)
• ≥ 3 years in a GLP laboratory facility (or ≥ 1 year with a B.S. degree)
• Experience with animal tissue
• Good organizational skills
• Excellent communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Provantis or other electronic data recording programs
• AALAS or ASCP certifications (e.g., LAT or HT)

Working Environment

• Primarily laboratory/animal facility (requires respirator, safety glasses, lab coat, shoe covers, head cover, and gloves as needed)
• Occasional office work
• Occasional weekend, holiday, and evening work required
