NDT Technician I

About the Role

Designs, develops, and implements nondestructive testing (NDT) to evaluate the properties and conformance of a material, component, or system without causing damage. Records, analyzes, and reports test results. Writes testing plans and maintains test documentation in accordance with applicable regulations and requirements.

This role involves acquiring basic skills to perform routine tasks, developing an understanding of analytical or scientific methods, and working with close supervision while performing manual tasks according to established procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with setting up and standardizing equipment, processing parts, interpreting and evaluating for acceptance or rejection, and documenting results.
  • Supports the development of specific calibrations and tests.
  • Documents results in accordance with specifications.
  • Identifies errors and defects in equipment.
  • Uses ultrasound, radiography, or other techniques during the testing process.
  • Assists with conducting system performance checks in accordance with applicable process standards.
  • Maintains procedures, policies, and techniques as necessary.
  • Maintains documentation for training and experience hours.

Requirements

  • Attending a Vocational/Technical School or internal training program OR equivalent combination of relevant education and experience or skillset; no prior experience needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Vocational/Technical Training Degree in Science, NDT, or equivalent training and experience.
  • Working toward NDT Level 1 certification or higher.
  • Working toward certification in alignment with NAS 410 standards through education, training, and testing, and performing required Level 1 tasks.
  • Working toward ultrasonic, MPI, and/or liquid penetrant certification.

Physical Requirements

  • Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities.
  • Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds.
  • May need to stand for long periods of time.
  • Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.
  • Must be willing to work outside normal business hours as required.
  • This position is safety-sensitive.

Travel Requirements

No or very little travel likely.
