About the role
The roll shop NDT Level II Technician performs calibrations, non-destructive tests, evaluates test results to determine component acceptance according to written processes and procedures, and submits electronic reporting results.
The technician must be qualified to set up equipment, perform calibration checks, conduct inspections, interpret results, evaluate findings, and submit detailed electronic reports to customers.
Responsibilities
- Set up and calibrate non-destructive testing equipment
- Perform inspections to detect discontinuities, defects, flaws, or anomalies using NDT methods
- Follow inspection procedures for proper examination of components, ensuring strict adherence to safety regulations
- Perform testing in accordance with procedures or standards and evaluate results
- Collect, organize, and electronically report inspection results
- Communicate and interface with customers and management
- Perform specialized inspections
- Ensure rolls or components requiring inspections within shop inventory are maintained
- May instruct and supervise others at times
Requirements
- Training background in NDT methods and procedures, with knowledge of equipment and ability to effectively perform NDT tasks and interpret results
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Excellent communication skills, including correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation
- Ability to safely carry out oral and written work instructions
- Strong work ethic, dependability, and attention to detail
- Exceptional safety and quality awareness
- Mechanical aptitude
Working Conditions
- Work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to varying temperatures, noise levels, dust, dirt, fumes, and welding machines
- Use of manual or remote-controlled devices operated by radio signals
- Physical requirements include sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, kneeling, stooping, crouching, climbing stairs, and maneuvering in tight spaces
- May require lifting in excess of 50 lbs
- Must have visual acuity and color vision, manual dexterity, and ability to endure long hours
- Must wear required personal protective equipment
