ND Relief Operator

Main Functions

The Rig Relief Operator assumes the role of Operator when the Rig Operator is not able to complete their duties. They work under the direction of a Rig Manager.

Job Responsibilities

• Organize the rig crew (Floor Hands and Derrick Hands)
• Conduct Job Safety Meetings
• Delegate the collection of materials and equipment needed to perform contracted services
• Drive the Rig to the work site
• Operate the rig and equipment
• Direct the crew to set-up and prepare the rig for the tasks to be performed
• Document services performed, billable supplies used, and time elapsed
• Guide instruments, tubing, and casing down holes using specialized equipment
• Keep the working environment clean and organized
• Ensure that all equipment used is in proper working order
• Perform maintenance services and repairs on workover rig equipment
• Available to work beyond the traditional 8-hour workday, including Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays
• Able to work at heights up to or greater than 50 feet
• Dependable and punctual
• Perform maintenance services and repairs on oil and gas wells as part of a crew
• Lead daily pre-job tailgate safety meetings and write Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs)
• Inspect and document all lift equipment on location
• Rig up and rig down the workover Rig safely and document post-rig up inspections
• Pull and lay down Rods, Tubing, and Casing by operating the rig controls
• Guide and manage the rig crew daily
• Assist in training and mentoring SSE employees and floor hands as needed
• Assist Rig Manager in various tasks as directed
• Prepare rig tickets correctly and in a timely fashion, including correct pricing on rig rates, re-billable items, and managing hours for crew members
• Position the rig, raise, and lower the mast
• Direct other crew members in rigging up guy-lines, various equipment, and tools
• Lift, remove, install, and operate wellhead, pumping units, matting boards, tubing, rods, casing, rod strippers, polish rods, stripper heads, and other production equipment in a manner consistent with safe operating procedures
• Comply with the client's and the company's safe operating procedures
• Participate in company-provided training in rig operations, Standard Operating Procedures, and safe work procedures
