We are seeking energetic, passionate people who enjoy the outdoors and want to play a key role as a Natural Resources Technician 2 within the Division of Forestry, headquartered in Muskingum County at 6665 Cutler Lake Road, Blue Rock, Ohio 43720-9740. Learn more about the Division of Forestry.

Responsibilities

  • Performs semi-skilled general labor and/or preventative maintenance functions of indoor/outdoor facilities, grounds, and/or equipment.
  • Assists higher-level staff with invasive species program on state and private lands.
  • Applies chemical (e.g., herbicides and insecticides) under license of commercial applicator or limited commercial applicator, biological, and cultural controls to suppress forest pests.
  • Provides general customer services and/or support for facilities and grounds.

Requirements

  • 6 months training or 6 months experience in semi-skilled maintenance functions (e.g., minor electrical repair, rough plumbing repairs, carpentry, and masonry).
  • 6 months training or 6 months experience in equipment safety practices.
  • 6 months training or 6 months experience in use of shop, hand, and power tools.
  • 6 months training or 6 months experience in operation of mowers and trucks.
  • 6 months training or 6 months experience in equipment and vehicle maintenance.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Or 6 months experience as Natural Resources Technician 1.
  • Or equivalent of the Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

Training and Development

  • Positions responsible for application of regulated chemicals must receive instruction from a commercial applicator or limited commercial applicator in proper use of equipment and all pesticides per Ohio Revised Code 921.01 (VV).
  • Positions in the Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry Wildfire Program only, must successfully complete Basic Firefighter Introduction to Fire Behavior Course (S-130/S-190) within the first year of employment.

Unusual Working Conditions

  • May be exposed to dirt, dust, fumes, and noise.
  • May be exposed to chemical spray.
  • May work in, on, or near water.
  • May work evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Works outside and may be exposed to inclement weather.
  • May be exposed to dangerous machinery, unpleasant odors, human and animal waste, outdoor elements (e.g., animals, insects, poison ivy).

Pay

Starting hourly pay of $21.48/hr with multiple pay increases over your first 3.5 years of service, reaching an end salary of $23.65/hr. There may also be cost-of-living adjustments (COLA) applied. Longevity pay supplements begin after five (5) years of state service. Refer to the OCSEA pay range schedule and longevity rates.

Schedule

Full-time, 8 AM–5 PM (subject to change).
