Music Technology Instructor (part-time)
Position Summary
Purpose, Scope & Dimension of Job: Faculty facilitate student learning and initiate and participate in efforts to consistently improve the level of student success. As learning facilitators, faculty consistently assess learning outcomes and their own teaching effectiveness (pedagogy). As professionals, faculty adhere to the ethical standards of their profession as outlined, for example, by the NEA and the State of Michigan. Where applicable, faculty maintain licensure and certifications.
Professional Development
Faculty members are expected to engage in ongoing professional development activities to enhance their skills and knowledge in the field of music technologies.
Curriculum Development
Faculty are responsible for developing and updating curriculum materials that align with the College's educational goals and the needs of students.
Collegial Responsibilities
Faculty members collaborate with colleagues to share best practices, support one another, and contribute to the overall success of the College.
Communication
Effective communication skills are essential for faculty members to interact with students, staff, and administrators, and to convey course material clearly and engagingly.
Safety
Faculty members are responsible for maintaining a safe learning environment for students and themselves.
Specific Teaching Assignment
Faculty member may be responsible for teaching classes in Music Technologies, adhering to the stated course objectives, content and delivery.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor of Arts with significant experience in the industry.
- A minimum of two years (approx. 4000 hours) of practical experience in music technologies, such as recording, editing, composition, sound design, and/or incorporating live music with digital music technologies.
- Innovative, flexible and positive teaching style and understanding the needs of students from diverse backgrounds.
Additional Desirable Qualifications
- 12 credits or more of coursework in music technologies.
- Higher education teaching experience.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
- The employee must be able to move about 2/3 of the time and be stationary about 1/3 of the time.
- S/he is required to be mobile around campus for participant involvement/activities.
- S/he must be able to converse with individuals on a regular basis with the ability to read, analyze, and interpret their needs via phone conversations, face-to-face conversations, or written documentation.
- The employee must be able to utilize all programs on a computer independently and efficiently (particularly the internet, Word, and the student database).
- S/he must be able to present information in an instructional setting and respond to questions from groups.
- If applicable, must be able to tolerate frequent exposure to a wide variety of chemicals which are common to the industry.
- Must be able to handle and mix chemicals properly and safely; and wear appropriate gloves and other personal protective equipment.
Work Schedule
Faculty are required to maintain office hours and will make additional provisions for student consultations as may be necessary and reasonable.

- Must be available to teach onsite; opportunities do not exist to teach online courses only.
