Music (History of Rock) (Dual Enrollment)- Adjunct Professor

About the Role

This is a temporary, hourly as-needed adjunct professor position without permanent status. The role involves teaching Dual Enrollment music courses on partnering high school campuses, primarily in music appreciation and survey coursework. Assignments may include History of Rock, History of Jazz, Music and Culture of Hip Hop, Film Music Appreciation, and related survey courses.

Responsibilities

• Teach Dual Enrollment music courses on high school campuses based on departmental need.
• Prepare course materials and instructional content appropriate for college-level rigor and high school students in Dual Enrollment programs.
• Maintain effective communication with high school partners, students, department faculty, and administrators.
• Grade student work and provide timely, meaningful feedback.

Requirements

• One of the following awarded/conferred from a regionally accredited institution:
  • Master’s degree in music; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in music AND a Master’s in Humanities; OR
  • The equivalent (must request an equivalency review in the application); OR
  • California Community College credential, “Valid for Life” (no longer issued), authorizing service as an instructor in music (copy must be submitted with the application).
• Commitment to community college goals/objectives, including providing quality programs for students with diverse abilities and interests.
• Personal qualities to work effectively and sensitively in a multicultural environment.
• Awareness and commitment to the special needs of non-traditional students.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience teaching History of Rock at the college or high school level (strongly preferred).
• Experience teaching music appreciation, music history, or other survey-style music courses.
• Experience working with high school students, particularly in Dual Enrollment or concurrent enrollment environments.
• Ability to engage and support students from diverse educational, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Experience using Canvas or similar learning management systems.
• Demonstrated commitment to student engagement, equity, and inclusive teaching practices.

Pay

$101.40 per hour (based on lecture hour equivalent).
