Position Overview
The Town of Groton, Connecticut is seeking a compassionate, discreet, and highly organized professional to serve as the town's primary advocate and point of contact for local veterans, their spouses, and eligible dependents. This role provides confidential consultation and guidance to help constituents access comprehensive federal, state, and local benefits.
Required Qualifications
- Must be a U.S. veteran (as defined under Connecticut statute) or have practical experience handling veterans’ issues.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, Behavioral Science, Psychology, Communications, Health Services Administration, or Public Administration and one year of assisting patrons in finding, qualifying for, applying for, or delivering social or health care service programs involving direct patron contact, or Associate’s Degree and two years of experience, both as listed above, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of municipal office operations, CT veteran statutes (e.g., § 27-135), and regional veteran service organizations (VFW, American Legion) is strongly preferred.
- Experience in grant writing, program development, or non-profit/municipal environments is highly desirable.
- Bilingual skills (Spanish) are a plus.
