Municipal Law Attorney

Responsibilities

• Provide legal counsel to public agencies on municipal law and governance matters.
• Advise city departments, boards, commissions, and public officials on day-to-day legal issues.
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, ordinances, resolutions, agreements, and other legal documents.
• Handle land use, zoning, planning, development, and regulatory matters.
• Conduct legal research and prepare written legal opinions.
• Attend City Council, Planning Commission, and other public meetings as required.
• Analyze legislation, regulations, and policies impacting local governments.
• Support public procurement, real estate transactions, and development agreements.
• Advising clients on compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
• Develop practical legal strategies and risk management solutions for public agency clients.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
• Active member in good standing with the California State Bar.
• Minimum 5 years of experience representing public agencies.
• Strong experience in:
• Municipal Law
• Land Use
• Zoning
• Planning
• Public Contracts
• Governance

• Experience drafting and negotiating contracts and public agreements.
• Ability to provide legal counsel directly to public agencies and government entities.
• Excellent written, verbal, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience serving as a City Attorney or Assistant City Attorney.
