About the role

Under the direction of the Head Cook, Assistant Head Cook, and Food Service Supervisor, assists in the preparation of all food items and serving of food items in a school kitchen.

Work year: 180 days (scheduled student attendance days), 3 hours per day.

Responsibilities

• Work as directed in the daily preparation and serving of meals in the school lunch program.
• Operate Food Service Cash registers, Point of Sale computers, and record meal participation using rosters.
• Assist in the clean up of preparation areas both before and after meal service.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current food handlers permit.
• Previous experience with quantity food preparation and service.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
• Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s, including operations using U.S. currency, weight measurement, and volume.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but basic written or oral instructions.
• Ability to work in a friendly manner with co-workers, staff, and students.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and community.
• Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and School Board policies.

Physical Demands

• Frequently required to walk and continuously required to stand.
• Frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk.
• Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Continuously use hand strength to grasp tools.
• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds (e.g., milk crates, frozen foods, canned foods).
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and color vision.

Work Environment

• Occasionally works in temperatures above 80 degrees.
• Occasionally walks on slippery surfaces.
• Must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints and interact with the public and other workers.
• Noise level in the work environment is frequently loud, requiring raised voices to be heard.
• Greater than average risk of minor injury such as cuts or burns.

Pay

$25.44 to $31.36 per hour.

Schedule

Part-time, 3 hours per day, 180 days per year (scheduled student attendance days).
