About the role

The Medical Laboratory Scientist at BJC Healthcare plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality patient care. The department operates 24/7 and provides a wide range of laboratory services including hematology, immunology, chemistry, toxicology, flow cytometry, cytology, surgical pathology, microbiology, transfusion medicine, histocompatibility, blood donor/pheresis, molecular diagnostics, and bone marrow/stem cell preservation.

Responsibilities

  • Operates all instrumentation in assigned areas to deliver precise, timely, and accurate laboratory results.
  • Trains new laboratory personnel in methods, procedures, and use of equipment and instruments specific to the assigned area.
  • Performs quality controls for all equipment and troubleshoots malfunctioning instrumentation as necessary.
  • Affords technical and/or instrument problems, including quality control and abnormal findings, evaluates possible solutions, and chooses an appropriate course of action to solve the problem.
  • Reports and maintains records of patient test results through the laboratory computer system accurately, meeting published turnaround times for routine testing and statistics.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities and initiatives by proactively diagnosing and resolving problems.

Requirements

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • Experience: No experience required.
  • Licenses & Certifications: ASCP, AMT, AAB or equivalent.

  • Physical/Life Science/related Experience: No experience required.
  • Licenses & Certifications: ASCP, AMT, AAB or equivalent.

Skills

Good clinical laboratory practice, knowledge of quality control, basic instrument maintenance, and procedure methodologies and reference ranges.
