Full Time - 40 Hours Per Week, M-F, Rotating Weekends
Evening Shift: 3pm-11:30pm

The Department of Laboratories, Barnes-Jewish Hospital (BJH), is a full service laboratory, operating 24 hours a day. Laboratory Services are provided in Hematology, Immunology, Chemistry, Toxicology, Flow Cytometry, Cytology, Surgical Pathology, Microbiology, and Transfusion Medicine. Additionally, BJH operates a Histocompatibility Laboratory (HLA), blood donor/Pheresis Service, a Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory, and Bone Marrow/Stem Cell Preservation Laboratory in support of the tertiary care mission of BJH and laboratory diagnostic needs of BJC HealthCare members and affiliates and other clients. The laboratory oversees point of care testing hospital-wide. Laboratory analysis is performed on specimens of blood, urine, other body fluids, and tissue specimens submitted for testing on order of a physician or other health care provider approved to order laboratory testing.
Responsibilities
- Operates all instrumentation in assigned areas to deliver precise, timely, and accurate laboratory results.
- Performs all testing and operation of equipment as necessary to deliver quality results.
- Reports results through the laboratory computer system accurately, meeting published turn around times for routine testing and stats.
- Performs quality controls for all equipment and troubleshoots malfunctioning instrumentation as necessary.
- Participates in performance improvement activities and initiatives by proactively diagnosing and resolving problems. Specific quality functions are handled in an organized and timely fashion.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Physical/Life Science or related field
