Medical Laboratory Scientist I (MLS or MT) - Pathology Microbiology
About the role
The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) performs clinical laboratory tests by standard operating policies and procedures. Understands method principles, performs quality control & calibrations, performs preventive maintenance, and analyzes results as to accuracy, acceptability and critical limits.
Responsibilities
- Prepare patient specimens as required for laboratory testing and perform laboratory tests specific to department
- Monitor test results to assure test quality and validity
- Communicate test results in a timely manner
- Enter and retrieve data from laboratory computer systems
- Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and environment
- Demonstrate appropriate, caring behavior in the workplace, treating patients, their families, visitors and staff with respect and dignity
- Works alternate shifts as required
- Perform other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, phlebotomy
Requirements
- Bachelor degree or higher in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or a biological, chemical, or physical science from an accredited institution
- Bachelor degree with a combination of 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) in biology and chemistry, obtained within or in addition to the degree is also acceptable
- For non-CLS/MT degrees, one year of experience in a clinical laboratory is required
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification as MLS, BB, C, H or MB by ASCP or other nationally recognized certifying agency
Schedule
- 40 hours per week
- Monday - Friday (11 am - 7:30 pm)
- Required to work a weekend rotation for every 3rd weekend and rotational holidays
