About the role

Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. The Department of Laboratories, Barnes-Jewish Hospital (BJH), is a full service laboratory, operating 24 hours a day. Laboratory Services are provided in Hematology, Immunology, Chemistry, Toxicology, Flow Cytometry, Cytology, Surgical Pathology, Microbiology, and Transfusion Medicine. Additionally, BJH operates a Histocompatibility Laboratory (HLA), blood donor/Pheresis Service, a Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory, and Bone Marrow/Stem Cell Preservation Laboratory in support of the tertiary care mission of BJH and laboratory diagnostic needs of BJC HealthCare members and affiliates and other clients.

Responsibilities

• Operates all instrumentation in assigned areas to deliver precise, timely, and accurate laboratory results.
• Performs all testing and operation of equipment as necessary to deliver quality results.
• Reports results through the laboratory computer system accurately, meeting published turn around times for routine testing and stats.
• Participates in performance improvement activities and initiatives by proactively diagnosing and resolving problems.
• Specific quality functions are handled in an organized and timely fashion.

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor's Degree in a physical or life science related field.
• Experience: 5-10 years supervisor experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum requirement: Bachelor's degree in a physical or life science related field.
• Knowledge and understanding of quality control, basic instrument maintenance, and procedure methodologies and reference ranges.
• Demonstrates good laboratory practices.

Skills

• Knowledge of laboratory instrumentation and procedures.
• Ability to troubleshoot malfunctioning instrumentation.
• Good organizational and problem-solving skills.
