About the Role

Performs clinical laboratory tests by standard operating policies and procedures. Understands method principles, performs quality control and calibrations, performs preventive maintenance, and analyzes results for accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits.

  • Prepare patient specimens as required for laboratory testing and perform laboratory tests specific to the department.
  • Monitor test results to assure test quality and validity.
  • Communicate test results in a timely manner.
  • Enter and retrieve data from laboratory computer systems.
  • Assist in orientation or training of new or less experienced employees or students.
  • Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and environment.
  • Demonstrate appropriate, caring behavior in the workplace, treating patients, their families, visitors, and staff with respect and dignity.
  • Work alternate shifts as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, phlebotomy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology or a biological, chemical, or physical science from an accredited institution.
  • OR bachelor’s degree with a combination of 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) in biology and chemistry, obtained within or in addition to the degree, is also acceptable.
  • 2 years of experience in a clinical laboratory as a Medical Laboratory Scientist.
  • OR 1 year of experience in a clinical laboratory as a Medical Laboratory Scientist and certification as MLS, BB, C, H, or MB by ASCP or other nationally recognized certifying agency.

Schedule

This is a PRN (as needed) position. Required to work days, evenings, and weekends, per operational demand needs.
