Part-time, 10-month per year position based on the school calendar with an additional 3 weeks of work available for the ESY/summer school program in July. This is a 36.5 hour/week role.

About the role

The incumbent in this position will provide paraprofessional academic classroom instruction or student management aide support at the Minnesota State Academies. Contributes to the design and delivery of academic instructional programs for deaf/hard of hearing students. Provides educational instruction and uses a variety of techniques to encourage appropriate behaviors. Positions at the State Academy for the Deaf require signing skills. Candidates will be assessed for signing skills prior to hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provide paraprofessional academic classroom instruction or student management aide support.
  • Contribute to the design and delivery of academic instructional programs for deaf/hard of hearing students.
  • Provide educational instruction and use a variety of techniques to encourage appropriate behaviors.
  • Perform related work as required.

Requirements

  • At least two years of college credits (usually 60 credits in Minnesota) through an accredited institution of higher education; or
  • An associate’s or higher degree; or
  • A passing score on a valid and reliable formal assessment (Parapro or Paraeducator) demonstrating the knowledge and ability to assist with instruction in reading/language, writing, mathematics or readiness for each.
  • Knowledge or experience working with students in an educational and/or dorm setting or a similar setting as a caregiver.
  • Fluency in American Sign Language.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (with assistance) and be able to sit, stand, and walk throughout the day.
  • Employment is contingent upon a successful criminal background check within the past 12 months.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge or experience working with deaf/hard of hearing students.
  • Demonstration of advanced sign language.

Pay

$24.54 - $31.43 / hourly

Schedule

  • Day Shift
  • Monday - Friday
