This position provides paraprofessional academic classroom instruction or student management aide support at the Minnesota State Academies. Contributes to the design and delivery of academic instructional programs for blind/visually impaired students. Provides educational instruction and use a variety of techniques to encourage appropriate behaviors. Perform related work as required.

Minimum qualifications

• At least two years of college credits (usually 60 credits in Minnesota) through an accredited institution of higher education; or
• An associate's or higher degree; or
• A passing score on a valid and reliable formal assessment (Parapro or Paraeducator) demonstrating the knowledge and ability to assist with instruction in reading/language, writing, mathematics or readiness for each.
• Knowledge or experience working with students in an educational and/or dormitory setting or a similar setting as a caregiver.
• Intervener certificate (*) or the ability to voice and have fluent ASL skills determined at the interview
• If the candidate does not hold an intervener certificate the candidate must obtain one by attending the next intervener 6-week training session.

Preferred qualifications

• Knowledge of multi-challenged/blind/visually impaired students and educational practices
• Experience working with blind/visually impaired students in an educational setting.

Physical requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (with assistance) and to be able to sit, stand and walk throughout a workday.

Additional requirements

• Successful completion of a criminal background check within the past 12 months.

Schedule

• This is a 10-month per year position - schedule is based on the school calendar
• Day Shift (Mon-Thurs 7:30am-3pm and Fri 7:30am-2pm)
• Monday - Friday
• 36.5 hours/week

• $24.54 - $31.43 / hourly
