About the role

This position provides substitute dormitory instruction or student management aide support at the Minnesota State Academy for the Blind (MSAB). Under general supervision, contributes to the design and delivery of instructional programs to blind/visually impaired students. Provides educational instruction and uses a variety of techniques to encourage appropriate behaviors.

Responsibilities

• Assist in designing and delivering instructional programs for blind/visually impaired students
• Provide educational instruction in dormitory settings
• Encourage and manage appropriate student behaviors
• Support student management and care in a residential environment

Requirements

• A passing score on a valid and reliable formal assessment (Parapro or Paraeducator) demonstrating the knowledge and ability to assist with instruction in reading/language, writing, mathematics, or readiness for each OR the ability to pass the Parapro or Paraeducator assessment within the first 6 months of hire
• Knowledge or experience working with students in an educational and/or dormitory setting as a caregiver
• Ability to read and write English sufficient to understand and follow directions and to maintain records and documentation
• Human relations skills sufficient to establish rapport with and provide direction to residential students
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs with assistance
• Must be able to walk/stand for at least eight hours
• Employment is contingent upon a successful criminal background check within the past 12 months

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience/background working with blind/visually impaired students

Pay

$21.59 - $28.94 / hourly

Schedule

• Overnight shift (12am-8am)
• Monday - Friday
