About the role
This position provides supervision of students in the residential area and other duties as assigned at the Minnesota State Academy for the Blind.
Schedule
Evening shift: Sunday 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM and Monday – Thursday 2:45 PM – 12:00 AM
Days of work: Sunday – Thursday
Pay
Salary range: $21.59 – $28.94 per hour
Responsibilities
- Supervise students in the residential dormitory
- Assist with instruction in reading/language, writing, mathematics, or readiness as needed
- Maintain records and documentation
- Perform emergency procedures and personal safety techniques
Requirements
- A passing score on a valid and reliable formal assessment (Parapro or Paraeducator) demonstrating the ability to assist with instruction, OR the ability to pass the assessment within the first 6 months of hire
- Knowledge or experience working with students in an educational and/or dormitory setting or similar caregiver setting
- Ability to read and write English sufficient to understand directions and maintain records
- Human-relations skills to establish rapport with and provide direction to residential students
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs with assistance
- Ability to walk and stand for at least eight hours
- Successful criminal background check within the past 12 months
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience or background working with blind or visually impaired students
