About the role

Mass General Imaging in Chelsea offers the same support, resources, and expertise that MGH is known for in a state-of-the-art outpatient imaging suite. Under general supervision, the MRI technologist will safely perform magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies using a magnetic resonance imaging system. The department currently closes on July 4th, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients, position, set imaging parameters, acquire images, perform computer processing, and display images.
  • Select appropriate imaging protocols for patient studies and perform quality assurance scans as required.
  • Work cohesively as a team member within the MRI Department and consult appropriate content experts (e.g., radiologist, nurse, child life specialist).
  • Rotate to MRI scanners across the assigned department as needed.
  • Confirm patient name, date of birth, medical record number, and MRI exam ordered per Joint Commission guidelines.
  • Prepare patients, position for exams, set imaging parameters per protocol, perform computer processing, and display images for both clinical and research patients.
  • Perform routine outpatient exams with and without contrast, optimizing scan parameters due to patient condition to maintain diagnostic quality.
  • Manage MRI safety components for all exams and participate in clinical care coordination.
  • Insert IV catheters as needed and prepare for and perform intravenous injection of MR contrast agents, including use of the MR-compatible power injector.
  • Communicate possible contraindications and monitor for and respond to adverse reactions to MR contrast agents.
  • Record all information regarding contrast injections appropriately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Perform point of care testing (POCT) where applicable.
  • Instruct patients and visitors on MRI safety procedures and ensure adherence to safety policies by all persons entering the MRI area.
  • Function as the final checkpoint, prior to scanning, for patient safety and protocol clarification per department policy.
  • Identify hazardous system malfunctions; secure the area and remove patients and personnel from the magnet bay during emergency situations.
  • Perform scheduled quality control procedures on MRI scanner and related equipment, record QA results, and report potential equipment problems to supervisor.
  • Assist other department staff in various duties (e.g., scheduling and transporting patients, taking stock inventory, filing).

Requirements

  • Certificate/Diploma in medical imaging required; Associate's degree preferred.
  • MRI Registered Technologist with ARRT or ARMRIT within 1 year.
  • BLS certification within 90 days.
  • Competency in performing routine outpatient exams with and without contrast.
  • Ability to optimize scan parameters due to patient condition.
  • Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and rotate to MRI scanners as needed.

Schedule

  • Saturdays and Sundays, 6:30 AM – 8:00 PM.
  • Scheduled weekly hours: 26.
  • Rotating shift.

Pay

$50 - $60.29/hour.
