About the role
The MRI Technologist performs a variety of specialized tasks involved in the performance of MR scans. This is a per-diem position that may be one day a week, including weekends.
Responsibilities
- Perform MR duties in compliance with Imaging Department and legal requirements.
- Ensure operation of MR equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
- Administer contrast agents according to site-specific protocols under guidance and approval of site Radiologist.
- Aid radiologist with interventional MR procedures.
- Prepare patient for MR procedures by positioning patient, adjusting immobilization devices, moving equipment into specified position, and adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors.
- Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols; following drug protocols in case of reactions to drugs, such as contrast media, administering first aid, and using the emergency cart.
- Carefully screen all patients, patients' family members, and visitors entering the MRI scanning environment according to screening criteria and safety guidelines.
- Maintain production and quality of MR images by following established standards and procedures.
- Document patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Graduate of an approved two-year Radiologic Technology program.
- MR registered, registry eligible, or actively documenting cases performed in order to apply, sit for, and pass registry within 18 months of accepting position.
- Current BLS certification required.

- Demonstrated verbal communication skills in English and has Language Line accessibility for interacting with patients, callers, and coworkers.
Skills
Highly skilled in MRI physics and principles, with a commitment to staying updated with new applications and developments.
