About the Role

The MRI Technologist is responsible for daily modality operations, performing Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) according to established protocols under the direction of Radiologists and other physicians. This role also contributes to the training and onboarding of new employees and assists in the supervision of MRI students.

Responsibilities

  • Completes assigned tasks in a timely manner; demonstrates flexibility to fluctuations in workload.
  • Selects and operates the magnetic resonance system, surface coils, physiologic gating devices, and associated equipment to achieve desired results.
  • Applies principles of magnetic resonance safety to minimize risk to patient, self, and others.
  • Properly positions the patient on the MRI scanning cradle; inputs patient information and selects scan parameters; scans patients according to established protocol and physician request.
  • Performs IV injections, administers magnetic contrast agents, and manipulates images using computer functions to optimally visualize desired anatomy.
  • Performs quality assurance tests as specified by department protocol and maintains clinical competency.
  • Evaluates the patient, verifies patient ID, and ensures appropriate procedure is performed; explains procedures to patients and prepares them for imaging.
  • Properly screens all patients for metal safety; ensures patient comfort, privacy, and safety during procedures.
  • Monitors patient condition and medical equipment; troubleshoots equipment malfunctions and reports issues to radiology maintenance/supervisor.
  • Participates in the education and instruction of students and the orientation of new staff.
  • Contributes to performance improvement projects and assists in achieving successful audit results.
  • Selects appropriate pulse sequences with consideration to established protocols and influencing factors.
  • Maintains controlled access to the magnet room and Zones 2, 3, and 4; oversees quality control duties and maintenance.
  • Collaborates with other modalities and departments.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree from an ARRT-accredited institute (preferred).
  • MRI Registry from an accredited organization (ARRT or ARMRIT) (required).
  • State licensure (preferred, unless required by the state where the job is performed).
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification, American Heart Association (required at hire for Roper St. Francis Healthcare locations; preferred at hire, required prior to independent patient care at BSMH).
  • Advanced MRI Registry (MR) (preferred, or must obtain within two years).
  • 1 year of experience in an MRI department in a hospital setting (preferred).

  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
  • Follows OSHA Standards and Universal Precautions.
  • Experience with EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) (preferred).
  • Experience with Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS) (preferred).

Pay

Range: $35.82 – $55.52 per hour.
