The MRI Technologist performs MRI procedures to assist physicians in diagnosing injury and disease. Minimum Qualifications:
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) License or MRI Apprentice License through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board.
- Certification through American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) in Radiography, Nuclear Medicine, Radiation Therapy, or MRI, or certification through American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT).
- Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
- State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable), as required for regulated areas.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Radiography certification through American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT).
- Certification through American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) in MRI upon hire.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepares and explains exams to patients.
- Performs all exams that pertain to specialty areas.
- Maintains current knowledge of procedures in specialty areas.
- Maintains proper magnetic field safety requirements.
- Aids the physician during specialty exams.
- Processes exams and makes them available on PACS.
- Demonstrates appropriate patient/family/self-safety practices.
- Delegates and evaluates the delivery of care given by peers, other members of the health care team, and ancillary staff.
- Participates in self-evaluation and develops a plan for professional development based on personal/unit goals/strategic plans.
- Upon completion of exam, all paperwork is finished that deals with patient.
- Participates in the education/oversight of orientees, ancillary staff, and students in collaboration with the preceptor, manager, and/or designated education coordinator.
- Active on selected committees for the purpose of exchanging information and participating in problem-solving methods.
- Arranges own knowledge base and development by attending formal and/or informal educational activities.
- Assists in identifying problems for investigation, collecting data for research projects, and applying current concepts to patient care.
- Values based care recognizes the importance of quality customer services (Service Excellence Standards) to patients and employees.
- Completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Extended periods of standing and walking.
- Lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs of weight.
- Carry items of up to 20 lbs.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
- Works in a strong magnetic field.
- May be exposed to virus, disease, and infection from patients and specimens in working environment.
- May be exposed to traumatic situations including psychiatric crisis, physical injuries, and death.
- Possible exposure to ionizing radiation and sharps.
