Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is looking for a Nondestructive Evaluation Engineer to join the Midwest Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) and Fleet Support team in Berkeley, MO. This team supports space, commercial, and defense air vehicle programs including 787, 777X, F-15, F-18, AV-8B, T-7A, T-45, MQ-25, KC-46, P-8, B-52, B-1, KC-135, Executive Transport platforms, Commercial Crew Transportation, Space Launch, and weapon systems. The team is responsible for NDE Engineering across pre-production, current production, and post-production efforts, as well as supplier standup/certification, fabrication support/troubleshooting, fleet support, and NDE research and development for both internal and external customers. The team operates in Huntsville, AL; Oklahoma City, OK; and St. Louis, MO, with the chosen candidate supporting the St. Louis location.

Responsibilities

  • Apply nondestructive evaluation (NDE) methods (acoustic, electromagnetic, thermal, optical, radiologic) to develop new approaches addressing affordability and supportability objectives.
  • Develop new sensor technology and testing systems for NDE in manufacturing and support areas.
  • Define requirements for tools, equipment, materials, parts, and processes used in engineering design, manufacture, and maintenance; approve their use.
  • Lead development of specifications and documents to manage deployment of tools, equipment, materials, parts, and processes.
  • Maintain compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies for potential business applications.
  • Lead development, validation, and qualification of new tools, equipment, materials, parts, and processes to meet requirements.
  • Manage test and audit programs to qualify suppliers to applicable requirements.
  • Use project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements.
  • Incorporate environmental health and safety, LEAN, and Quality principles into materials/processes, research/design, work procedures, and labs/office areas.
  • Ensure compliance with industry codes, standards, and customer requirements (ASNT, ASTM, AWS, ASME, ISO, etc.).
  • Support audits, root cause analyses, and failure investigations as a subject matter expert.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and technicians.
  • Support the Team Lead, assist in defining strategies, and provide consultation.
  • Travel a minimum of 10% of the time.

This position is 100% onsite and requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship required). A final U.S. Secret clearance post-start is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or equivalent directly related to the work statement.
  • For Level 2 (Associate): 2+ years of work-related experience with a Bachelor’s, or equivalent experience with a Master’s.
  • 2 years of experience in NDE.
  • For Level 3 (Experienced): 5+ years of work-related experience with a Bachelor’s, or 3+ years with a Master’s/PhD.
  • 5+ years of hands-on NDE/NDT engineering experience in a regulated industry (e.g., aerospace, defense, energy).
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Physics (preferred).
  • Experience with nondestructive evaluation processes (e.g., ultrasonic testing, radiography, eddy current testing, penetrant inspection).
  • Experience working in multi-discipline teams and with technical/non-technical customers.
  • Strong understanding of materials behavior, stress analysis, and fracture mechanics.
  • Experience with project management tools.
  • Excellent time management skills for managing multiple simultaneous projects across locations.
  • Active/Current Secret U.S. Security Clearance (preferred but not required).

Pay

Salary ranges are based on experience, qualifications, and market considerations:

  • Level 2 (Associate): $91,600 – $124,200
  • Level 3 (Experienced): $112,200 – $151,800

Schedule

  • 100% onsite at the St. Louis, MO location.
  • 1st shift.
  • Relocation assistance available based on candidate eligibility.
