Job Summary

The Mountain Sports School Supervisor supports daily operations and instructor development of a team of 85-160 instructors while delivering a safe, high-quality guest experience. Assists the Manager and Director with staffing, training, and operational planning while modeling leadership, accountability, and a strong team culture.

Essential Job Responsibilities/Duties/Tasks

  • Coordinate with managers on supervisory responsibilities, including but not limited to operational decisions and planning, assigning, and directing the work of employees.
  • Play an active role in employee performance management, including conducting reviews, providing coaching, and supporting the resolution of employee concerns and performance issues.
  • Supervise daily operations, including but not limited to guest check-in, resolving guest concerns, class assignments, staffing and instructor deployment based on business needs, ensuring timely lesson start times, monitoring classes, providing on-hill instructor support, accurate data entry in Flaik, and maintaining facility organization, cleanliness, and basic upkeep.
  • Understand and comply with federal and California labor laws in all phases of the employment lifecycle, from hiring through termination, as well as all Company policies and procedures.
  • Enforce and model safety standards in accordance with Company and department policies and procedures, ensuring a safe environment for guests and employees.
  • Support the coordination and execution of programs within the Mountain Sports School (MSS).
  • Execute daily procedures to support effective personnel and financial management of the MSS.
  • Support marketing and promotional initiatives to promote MSS programs.
  • Maintain accurate records and files for MSS programs through effective use of company systems.
  • Actively contribute to and model the desired culture of the school through professional behavior, leadership, and positive interactions.
  • Perform and support front-line duties as needed, including skiing/riding, teaching, class management, carpet area support, student support and supervision, and guest service functions.
  • Teach group and private lessons, beginner through advanced, and step into a variety of teaching roles across programs as needed.

Required: Competencies and Job Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and interact professionally with employees, guests, and leadership.
  • Working knowledge of computers, including Microsoft Office (Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook, Access), and ability to learn company systems.
  • Advanced skiing and/or snowboarding and teaching skills, with current PSIA/AASI certification.
  • Working knowledge of current PSIA/AASI teaching principles and techniques.
  • Ability to lead and direct employees, make sound decisions, and deliver quality guest service in high-pressure and rapidly changing conditions.

Education and Experience

  • A minimum of two years of snowsports instruction experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current PSIA/AASI Level 1 certification or equivalent.
  • A preferred Bachelor's Degree.
  • PSIA/AASI Level 2 certification or higher.
  • One year of supervisory or leadership experience.

Physical Requirements

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will continuously be exposed to outside weather conditions.
  • The employee will frequently be exposed to extreme cold, wetness and/or humidity, and occasionally blizzards and extreme storm conditions.
  • Hazardous Materials/Noise: The noise level in the workplace is usually moderate.
  • Equipment Used in Job: Skis and/or Snowboard.
