Motor Vehicle Representative 1, G-9 (NY HELPS) Utica Processing Center

Responsibilities

  • Open, count, and sort daily mailings into appropriate batches; operate postage machine for outgoing documents.
  • Process transactions using the DMV database, including resignations, license renewals, suspension termination fees, civil penalties, plate surrenders, and duplicate titles.
  • Issue certificates for New York State Driver Education and 5-hour pre-licensing courses; assist driving schools with roster and teacher information.
  • Maintain communication with other agency units and State Education to ensure compliance with rules and regulations.
  • Balance all previous day’s paperwork for office transactions (audit).
  • Operate remittance processing machine to handle bulk transactions and correct data errors.

Requirements

To be eligible for the Motor Vehicle Representative 1, G-09 position, you must meet one of the following conditions:

  • High school diploma or equivalency AND one of the following:
    • One year of experience providing customer service to the general public in a face-to-face or call center environment.
    • 30 college semester credit hours.
  • One year of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55b/c service allocated to a G-07 or higher, eligible for transfer under Section 52.6 or Section 70.1 of Civil Service Law, or currently serving in the title and eligible for reassignment.
  • Previous service in this title or a transferable title, eligible for reinstatement pursuant to Civil Service Law (if left state service more than one year ago, reinstatement requires Civil Service Commission approval and includes a mandatory 52-week probation period).
  • Eligibility for 55b/c appointment (candidates must submit their current 55b/c eligibility letter with their application).

This position is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the program, the title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment (no examination required), but candidates must meet the minimum qualifications. Within one year of permanent appointment, non-competitive status will convert to competitive status without requiring a civil service test.
