Motor Vehicle Mechanic (HVAC)

About the role

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic/HVAC position at Aberdeen Proving Grounds supports the Maintenance and Supply Divisions. This role is governed by a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and requires employees to join after beginning employment.

Responsibilities

• Provides air conditioning/refrigeration maintenance and repair services.
• Ensures correct operation of refrigerant dispensing and recovery equipment and maintains accurate records in compliance with relevant regulations.
• Repairs, rebuilds, or overhauls major assemblies of internal combustion automobiles, buses, trucks, or tractors.
• Determines and carries out necessary repairs based on diagnosis of malfunctioning components.
• Replaces worn or damaged parts such as piston rings, bearings, or engine parts.
• Grinds and adjusts valves, rebuilds carburetors, and overhauls transmissions.
• Oversees fuel injection, lighting, and ignition systems.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
• At least two (2+) years of experience as a motor vehicle mechanic and HVAC repair technician.
• Certified in accordance with Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technicians' EPA Certification standards for the equipment and materials being utilized.
• Valid state-issued Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and ability to obtain/maintain a forklift license.
• Basic to intermediate level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

• Physical demands include bending, squatting, stooping, crouching, leaning, sitting, and balancing.
• Work involves using power/automated hand tools and lifting/carrying/pushing/slidin up to 50 pounds.
• Requires standing for extended periods of time.

Skills

• Strong mechanical aptitude.
• Knowledge of automotive and HVAC systems.
• Ability to follow safety protocols.
