About the role
Motor Equipment Operator II position in the Stormwater Maintenance division of the City of Virginia Beach Public Works Department.
Responsibilities
- Operate a dump truck to transport sand, stone, gravel, and supplies.
- Operate a concrete truck.
- Operate a light truck to carry tools, equipment, and supplies to and from job sites.
- Operate a motor truck for snow removal or sanding icy streets and roads.
- Operate a dump truck, backhoe, and/or excavator.
- Repair, replace, and maintain catch basins, manholes, concrete, metal and plastic pipe, asphalt/concrete pavement, and concrete curb/gutter using proper methods and techniques.
- Service and perform minor repairs on automotive equipment, including excavators, front-end loaders, and backhoes.
- Assist in loading and unloading materials and equipment transported by truck.
- Perform manual labor tasks such as cleaning drainage structures, concrete repairs, handling forms and pipes, clearing ditches, removing debris, downing trees, and shoveling sediment.
- Perform other duties as assigned based on skills, knowledge, and physical requirements.
Requirements
- Commercial Driver’s License – Class A (VA or NC) CDL.
- Pre-employment physical is required.
Pay
Newly hired employees with a valid Class A CDL are eligible for a $4,000 hiring bonus paid in three increments during the first year of employment:
- $1,000 with the first paycheck.
- $1,000 in the first pay period following a six-month interim evaluation (with a “meets expectation” performance rating).
- $2,000 at the conclusion of the probationary period (with a “meets expectation” performance rating).
Schedule
Monday – Thursday; 6:30 am to 5:00 pm.
