Motive Power - Field Service Technician

About the role

Motive Battery Technician at Shoppa’s Material Handling. A family-owned and operated business since 1981, we are an authorized dealer of Toyota Material Handling, known for quality, durability, safety, and innovation.

Responsibilities

• Perform service calls, both in-shop and customer sites, including watering batteries, evaluating batteries/chargers, and battery monitoring systems.
• Evaluate and correct non-conformities to maximize uptime of customer material handling equipment.
• Support sales staff in the sale/service of new and used equipment.
• Represent Viking Power with professionalism, great attitude, effective communication skills, and outstanding customer service.
• Communicate with intra-company personnel about potential warranty issues.
• Rebuild batteries by replacing cells, connectors, cables, etc.
• Burn lead to make connections and case connectors.
• Adjust acid levels in batteries.
• Run diagnostics on batteries.
• Manage all parts in inventory.
• Perform repairs and preventative maintenance on chargers and systems.
• Notify supervisor of equipment not working properly.
• Package and dispose of used acids and batteries in compliance with DOT/EPA and OSHA regulations.
• Gather necessary information for proper communication of work (truck model, serial number, unit number, battery model, charger model, connector type).

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• 2+ years’ experience working with batteries
• Clean driving record
• Working knowledge of electrical circuits & electronics

Physical Demands And Working Conditions

• Sitting, standing, and walking (up to continuously)
• Frequent use of computers and telephone requiring repetitive finger, hand, and arm movement
• Occasionally carry office supplies and other miscellaneous items up to 50 pounds
• Continuous use of seeing, hearing, verbal communication
• Work indoors and outdoors
• Exposure to temperatures commensurate with outdoor seasonal temperatures
