About the Role
You will carry out all phases of mortuary services and assistance for the Casualty Assistance Center, processing current deaths of service members, their dependents, Department of Army Civilians, active duty National Guard, and Army Reservists.
Responsibilities
- Brief and provide information to the next of kin regarding entitlements involving the removal, preparation, transportation, and interment of remains.
- Maintain appropriate suspense systems, files, and databases for preparation and submission of all required reports, forms, and files.
- Monitor all mortuary contracts within the area of responsibility from inception to conclusion.
- Serve as a liaison between hospitals, funeral homes, personnel, and family members to plan ceremonies.
- Apply policies and procedures related to casualty affairs and military funeral honors.
- Ensure the accuracy of casualty information through personnel management, records research, and inquiries.
- Perform 24-hour casualty assistance duties and must be immediately available to respond, including irregular tours of duty such as nights, weekends, and holidays.

- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must maintain training in applicable policies, techniques, tactics, and procedures.
- This is a Mission Essential position.

Qualifications
To qualify, you must meet one of the following requirements:
- Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience, including serving as a liaison for planning ceremonies, applying casualty affairs policies, and ensuring accuracy of casualty information. This experience is typical of work performed at the GS-07 level in the federal service.
- Education: A Master’s or equivalent graduate degree, or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education in a relevant field.
- Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used if the total meets or exceeds 100% of the requirements. Calculate by dividing total months of experience by 12 and completed graduate semester hours beyond the first year by 18, then add the percentages.
Applicants must have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks and have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
If using foreign education to qualify, credentials must be evaluated by a private organization specializing in foreign education interpretation and deemed equivalent to a U.S. accredited program. More information.

- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
- Proof of U.S. citizenship is required.
- A 1-year trial/probationary period is required, during which continued employment is evaluated based on performance, agency needs, and public interest.

- Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement.
- Permanent Change of Station (PCS) allowances may be authorized, subject to Joint Travel Regulations and agency determination.

- Salary negotiation may be available for new Federal employees.
- This position is NOT open to VEOA eligible applicants.
- Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment, or change to lower grade not to exceed 4 years, with potential extensions up to 5 years.
