About the role
The Mortgage Loan Officer sells and originates residential mortgage loans to sales goals. The role involves explaining various mortgage products and services, guiding customers through the mortgage application process, managing customer expectations, and selling loans according to established policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Met with prospects directly and through referrals to sell and originate residential mortgage loans.
- Explain and recommend mortgage products based on individual needs.
- Guide customers through the mortgage application process and ensure accurate completion of applications.
- Manage customer expectations regarding processing times and closing dates.
- Sell and originate residential mortgage loans while adhering to policies and procedures and relevant laws and regulations.
- Generate referrals for mortgage sales opportunities and other company business line products.
- Create a plan to achieve sales goals with assistance from sales management.
- Enter information into mortgage loan systems and create supporting files for underwriting and regulatory purposes.
- Communicate loan decisions to customers and address any additional information needed.
- Attend closings as necessary and maintain ongoing communication with customers, underwriters, processors, realtors, closing agents, and others to ensure the application process progresses smoothly.
- Stay updated on industry practices, trends, and regulatory requirements through continuing education and training.
- Participate in homebuyer seminars, home shows, broker meetings, and other home financing workshops.
- Recommend changes to products, programs, and pricing.
- Ensure compliance with audit and exam standards to maintain a successful audit and exam record.
- Deal with complex mortgage needs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in addition to 2+ years of mortgage origination experience.
- Proven sales ability.
- Knowledge of the mortgage industry, products, lending practices, and regulatory guidelines.
- High level of sales ability and negotiation skills.
- Strong time management skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficient in PC skills, including mortgage origination and automated underwriting systems.
Qualifications
- Eligible for employment with a covered financial institution under the standards established by Regulation Z of the Truth in Lending Act.
- Eligible for registration as a registered mortgage loan originator with the NMLS.
- Satisfactory results on a criminal background check and a credit report check.

Pay
The base pay for this role ranges from $11.54 per hour to $16.94 per hour, depending on established local minimum wage plus commission.
Schedule
