About the role

The Physician is responsible for supervising and providing necessary and desirable medical care within their specialty to Dartmouth-Hitchcock patients, consistent with the policies and procedures of DHC, the facility at which care is rendered, and the directions of the Service Line Leader or designee.

If the Physician’s specialty requires call coverage, they will rotate call coverage with other physicians and allied health professionals in their specialty to ensure comparable on-call time during nights, weekends, and holidays. While on call, the physician must remain in close proximity as directed by the department chair or designee.

In addition to clinical responsibilities, the Physician will spend sufficient time on administrative and record-keeping matters, provide clinical and related administrative services, and actively participate in Dartmouth Health’s academic endeavors. The Physician must abide by the Dartmouth Health Bylaws for the Professional Staff and Code of Conduct.

Responsibilities

• Review records and detailed medical history from patients.
• Determine appropriate diagnosis (diagnoses) and treatment plan(s).
• Order and interpret appropriate screening, diagnostic tests, and studies.
• Obtain informed consent for treatment, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures.
• Prescribe medications, treatments, and medical devices within specialty scope of practice.
• Initiate referrals to other providers as necessary.
• Initiate admission/discharge of patients, if applicable.
• Provide consultation, education, and counseling on managing acute and chronic illnesses and injuries.
• Encourage behavioral change and assist with self-management skills to improve overall health.
• Complete appropriate documentation in a timely manner.
• Provide patient and family-centered care while ensuring privacy, confidentiality, and informed consent.
• Supervise Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) as directed.
• Participate in continuing medical education (CME).
• Participate in quality and patient safety initiatives.
• Engage in academic responsibilities assigned by the Department Chair or designee, including:
  • Leading small group resident conferences.
  • Training residents and teaching medical and other health professional students.
  • Participating in clinical trials or other sponsored research.
  • Fulfilling any other Geisel obligations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Advanced clinical degree (MD or DO).
• Postgraduate training in a residency program.
• Current New Hampshire Medical License.
• Current or eligible for ABMS Board Certification (to be obtained within 5 years).
• Active hospital staff membership.
