About the Role

Monitor Techs directly monitor patient cardiac rhythm and oxygen saturation via remote monitoring system. They enter patient's data into the monitoring system, respond to alarms, identify changes in patients' status, and report to the appropriate RN in a timely manner. They serve as preceptors for other Monitor Techs and assist staff in critically thinking and problem-solving issues in a timely manner.

  • Maintains confidentiality by discouraging gossip and using discretion when discussing patient, work, or LMC related information with others.
  • Assists in the provision of quality patient care through monitoring of clinical data.
  • Receives orders and enters patient data into monitoring system and assigns transmitter for remote telemetry.
  • Enters orders and other pertinent information into the computerized Patient Care System.
  • Demonstrates ability to use and troubleshoot the monitoring system effectively.
  • Demonstrates competence in recognizing cardiac rhythms and changes in patient status, and follows through with appropriate action.
  • Provides rhythm strips for charts by uploading into correct patient record in a timely manner according to policy and documents information on them as required (interpretation, heart rate, PQRS measurements and O2 saturation).

  • Required Certifications/Licensure: None
  • Required Training: Successful completion of outside basic arrhythmia class or successful completion of LMC's Basic Arrhythmia Course within new hire probationary period. Candidates with Monitor Tech experience who successfully pass LMC's Basic Arrhythmia exam can be considered as having met this requirement.

  • Affixes with orientation of new monitor techs.

  • Assists as needed with tracking equipment.
  • Uses proper procedure for securing supplies from other areas.
  • Prioritizes work load to best meet both patient and unit needs.
  • Effectively uses electronic, verbal, non-verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in a clear and concise manner to ensure appropriate understanding and response.
  • Able to clearly express self orally and legibly.
  • Demonstrates direct open communication with co-workers by resolving issues on a peer to peer basis.
  • Appropriately utilizes electronic communication and other system supports for conveying information.
  • Keeps leaders informed of reports/activities and stat results as available.
  • Meets all requirements as defined by Human Resources Policies.
  • Completes yearly safety training and other mandatory classes.
  • Completes employee health workup.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled, meeting organizational attendance and tardiness requirements.
  • Successfully pass the annual Basic Arrythmia exam.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
