Mold Technician
About the role
The Mold Technician at Becton, Dickinson and Company is responsible for the setup, maintenance, and repair of injection molds and related equipment used in the production of medical devices. This role ensures optimal mold performance, quality, and efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance on injection molds, hot runner systems, and associated tooling.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose mold issues, including mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems, and execute necessary repairs.
- Disassemble, clean, inspect, and reassemble molds according to established procedures and specifications.
- Set up and change over molds on injection molding machines, ensuring proper alignment and functionality.
- Conduct minor mold modifications and adjustments to optimize part quality and production efficiency.
- Document all mold maintenance activities, repairs, and changes accurately in the maintenance management system.
- Collaborate with production, engineering, and quality teams to identify and resolve mold-related issues.
- Adhere to all company safety protocols, quality standards, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to mold performance and manufacturing processes.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent; an associate's degree or vocational training in tool and die making, mold making, or a related technical field preferred.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Mold Technician, Toolmaker, or similar role in an injection molding environment, preferably within the medical device industry.
- A strong understanding of injection molding processes, mold design, and hot runner technology.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems related to molds.
- Experience with precision measuring instruments (e.g., calipers, micrometers, height gauges).
- Familiarity with various types of mold steels, coatings, and repair techniques (e.g., welding, polishing).
- Basic computer skills for data entry and documentation.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Must be able to lift and move heavy objects and stand for extended periods.
- Willingness to work various shifts and overtime as required.
