The Role
The Role: Our Colorado Springs site is seeking a Mold Technician to support our Tooling team. In this role, the Mold Technician supports manufacturing operations by building, assembling, maintaining, and servicing plastic injection molds and mold inserts used in production. Working from established procedures, blueprints, and specifications, this hands‑on role applies technical skills and attention to detail to ensure molds meet quality, safety, and performance standards. The Mold Technician collaborates with engineers, tooling specialists, and cell teams to support reliable manufacturing operations.
What You’ll Do
- Build tool insert configurations and set up mold bases
- Disassemble, clean, and maintain plastic injection molds and inserts
- Interpret technical drawings and blueprints with accuracy
- Utilize SAP for tracking, documentation, and workflow management
- Operate a variety of hand tools, including calipers, air impact wrenches, microscopes, and other precision instruments
- Perform Level 1 Preventive Maintenance (PM) on mold bases and inserts
- Safely operate overhead cranes for mold handling and setup
- Follow the build schedule to meet production timelines and quality standards
- Understand and follow the Bill of Materials (BOM) for accurate assembly and configuration
- Communicate effectively with cell team members and tool room support staff to ensure smooth operations
- Other duties as assigned to support business goals and objectives
What We Seek
- A high school diploma or GED
- 1–5 years of related tooling, mold, machining, or manufacturing experience (preferred)
- Technical training, apprenticeship, or on-the-job tooling experience (preferred)
- Basic knowledge of tooling methods, mold components, and shop practices
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality tooling that supports consistent, reliable manufacturing outcomes
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to interpret engineering drawings, diagrams, and specifications to ensure molds are built accurately and to required tolerances
- Works well independently and with a group on collaborative projects
- The willingness to work occasional overtime or weekends as needed to support business demands if needed
- Ability to use measuring devices, hand tools and power tools
- Physical ability to lift up to 40 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation, stand and walk for the duration of the shift, climb ladders, and work in industrial or manufacturing environments
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or holidays as business needs require
- Ability to perform repetitive and fine-motor tasks, including pinching, grasping, twisting, bending, and reaching
- Visual acuity to inspect components, read drawings, and use precision measurement tools
- Use cleaning equipment, tools, and personal protective equipment (PPE) safely
