Mold Design Engineer
Seeking an experienced Injection Mold Designer with 3‑7+ years of experience designing complex injection molds in SolidWorks. Candidates should have expertise in mold design, hot runner systems, mold flow analysis, DFM/DFMEA, tooling and EDM processes, polymer behavior, cooling design, and hands‑on mold troubleshooting. Strong project management experience leading mold builds from concept through T1 is required.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop complex injection molds using SolidWorks, including 2D detailing.
- Perform mold flow analysis and apply design‑for‑manufacturing (DFM) and design‑for‑assembly (DFMEA) principles.
- Specify and integrate hot runner systems and best‑practice cooling designs.
- Select appropriate mold steels (H13, P20, S7, stainless) and oversee machining and EDM processes.
- Apply knowledge of polymer behavior, shrinkage, and rheology to optimize mold performance.
- Conduct hands‑on mold tryouts, sampling, and troubleshooting in press.
- Lead mold projects from concept through T1 handover, managing schedule, cost, risk, and stakeholder communication.
- Maintain detailed drawings, manage engineering change orders (ECOs), and control revisions.
- Preferred: work on medical or regulated products, conformal cooling, high‑cavitation molds, valve gating, thin‑wall molding, and advanced mechanisms such as unscrewing systems.
Requirements
- 3–7 years of injection mold design experience (multi‑cavity, family tools, hot runner, complex actions).
- Expert proficiency with SolidWorks for mold design and 2D detailing.
- Demonstrated project management experience leading mold projects from concept through T1 and handover.
- Strong knowledge of machining processes, EDM, tolerancing, and mold steel selection.
- Understanding of polymer behavior, shrinkage, rheology, and design‑for‑molding principles.
- Hands‑on exposure to mold tryouts, sampling, and troubleshooting in press.
- Familiarity with hot runner systems and best‑practice cooling design.
- Ability to read and produce detailed drawings; manage ECOs and revision control.
- Intermediate level of experience.
