About the role
Cox Fleet is hiring a Mobile Trailer Technician II to join our team. This is a dedicated on-site position focused on performing certified DOT inspections, preventative maintenance, light repairs, and other duties such as trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps, engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, and replacement of panels, body, and framework. Work is performed at the customer's site. The Technician II can perform more advanced repairs under supervision and assists senior technicians while continuing to learn additional mechanical skills.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance, DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on various trailers and equipment with little or no supervision.
- Document work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders using a company-issued iOS device and proprietary TRAIT application.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on trailers and systems, including trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps, liftgates, and brake chambers.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely manner.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical components.
- Follow and comply with safe operating practices and procedures.
- Manage parts inventory and equipment on a company-issued service truck, including periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate company-issued service vehicle, conducting safety checks and pre-/post-trip inspections.
- Apply technical knowledge acquired through formal training or on-the-job experience.
- Assess customer needs, provide information, and resolve problems effectively.
- Manage concurrent tasks and prioritize work-related activities.
- Act with integrity, maintain confidentiality, and adhere to ethical and professional standards.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs in a mobile/field environment.
- Respond to call center-dispatched unscheduled service and maintenance requests.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, trailer tools, welding equipment, and jacks.
- Maintain high productivity and work within or close to Standard Repair Times.
- Obtain parts from approved vendors as necessary for repairs.
- Communicate with management and support teams for approvals, purchase orders, and repair estimates.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, and environmental policies, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
- Complete all required company safety training.
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with customers and vendors.
- Maintain company-issued service truck, conduct safety checks, and daily pre/post-trip inspections.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair various trailer equipment and systems, including welding, fabrication, and replacement of panels and framework.
- Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and use sound judgment to evaluate alternatives.
- Inspect, test, and diagnose defective equipment using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Assist Mobile Trailer Technician I with diagnostics.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED and 3 years' experience in a related field (Trailers). Alternatively, any level of degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED in a related discipline or 5 years' experience in a related field.
- Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
- OEM training and certifications are preferred.
- Must be able to successfully complete and pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.
- A current and valid DOT medical card with more than four months remaining may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical.
- Must be at least 21 years or older due to interstate operating authority commerce regulations.
- Valid driver's license required; must be able to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
Qualifications
- ASE T8 (PMI) certification (required or obtained within 18 months).
- Preferred certifications: ASE 608/609, ASE T4 (Brakes), ASE T5 (Suspension), ASE T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems), ASE T7 (HVAC).

- Knowledge of trailer parts and systems, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.

Pay
Hourly pay rate is in the range of $26.73 - $40.10 per hour. The base rate may vary based on location and the candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. The position may also be eligible for additional compensation such as commission or incentive programs.

Days: Sunday through Wednesday
Hours: 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM
