About the role

Cox Fleet is hiring a Mobile Diesel Technician Level I. The technician will perform DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light repairs, and other duties as assigned. Under supervision, the technician can perform more advanced repairs and will continue to learn additional mechanical skills and diagnostics. Work is frequently audited for quality, and compliance with company policies and performance metrics is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment, including electrical/brake/cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
  • Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on a company-issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
  • Maintain and operate a company-issued service vehicle, including safety checks and pre-/post-trip inspections.
  • Assess client and customer needs, provide information or assistance, and resolve problems or meet expectations.
  • Manage concurrent tasks, prioritize work-related activities, and allocate time effectively.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
  • Document work performed, parts used, and findings on repair orders (RO) using a company-issued iOS device and the proprietary TRAIT application.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely manner.
  • Work with a high degree of independence and manage your daily schedule.
  • Maintain high productivity and work within or close to standard repair times.
  • Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary for repairs.
  • Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone for approvals, purchase orders, or repair order discussions.
  • Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, and environmental policies, as well as federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
  • Maintain the company-issued service truck, conduct safety checks, and perform daily pre-/post-trip inspections.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED and up to 2 years of experience in a related field.
  • Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary for the job.
  • OEM training and certifications are preferred.
  • Complete all required company training.
  • Must pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment. A current and valid DOT medical card with more than four months remaining may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical.
  • Must be at least 21 years old due to interstate commerce regulations.
  • Valid driver’s license required; must be able to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.

Certifications

  • Required: ASE T8 (PMI) certification (must be obtained within 18 months).
  • Preferred: ASE T4 (Brakes) certification.

  • Physical ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods; perform moderately heavy labor.
  • Stamina to exert oneself physically over long periods without tiring, including repetitive tasks.
  • Effective two-way communication skills for conveying information clearly and engaging with individuals and groups.
  • Ability to determine the appropriate tools and equipment needed for tasks.
  • Strong depth perception to judge distances accurately.

Pay

Hourly pay rate ranges from $20.10 to $30.10 per hour. The base rate may vary based on location, candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Additional compensation may include commission or incentive programs.
