Mobile Building Engineer- Fort Lauderdale

About the role

This non-supervisory, hourly, non-exempt position involves maintaining and repairing HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and building mechanical systems to ensure maximum efficiency of building systems. The role requires expertise in various types of heating and air conditioning plants and associated equipment, along with a commitment to excellence in service delivery.

Responsibilities

• Ensure ongoing preventive maintenance and repair work orders on facility mechanical, electrical, lighting, and other installed systems, equipment, and components.
• Maintain, operate, and repair all HVAC systems and associated equipment, electrical distribution equipment, plumbing systems, building interior/exterior repair, and related grounds.
• Perform assigned facility inspections and due diligence efforts, reporting on as-found conditions impacting satisfactory client occupancy and operations.
• Respond effectively to all emergencies, including light travel during emergency events.
• Operate, maintain, and repair boilers, heaters, pumps, valves, and lines used in the distribution of steam and heated or processed water.
• Maintain stock and inventory control.
• Recommend improvements to the preventive maintenance program on an ongoing basis.
• Keep the management team informed of current building operations by compiling and submitting monthly reports.
• Study and become familiar with building automation systems, fire/life safety systems, and other building-related equipment.
• Recognize danger and safety hazards and propose methods to eliminate them or use correct PPE.
• Comply with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agencies, and company directives related to building operations and safe work habits.
• Maintain all Federal, State, or Local licenses required for assigned locations.
• Complete all required safety training as scheduled annually.
• Comply with the company’s uniform dress code and maintain a neat and clean appearance during working hours.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent (required). Graduate of an apprentice program or trade school (preferred).
• Minimum of four (4) years of technical experience in all aspects of building engineering with a strong background in HVAC equipment and systems, plumbing, electrical, equipment repair and maintenance, and overall system design.
• Valid state driver’s license.
• Appropriate license/permit for trade as may be required by location.
• Valid “Universal” level certification for CFC and HFC-based refrigerants (EPA Section 608).

Skills

• Experience in operation, maintenance, and basic repair of HVAC, boilers, heaters, pumps, refrigerant systems, compressors, gas lines, water systems, and similar equipment.
• Knowledgeable in energy management systems, techniques, and operations.
• Thorough knowledge of all building systems operations, maintenance, and repair.
• Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with tenants, clients, and vendors.
• Basic computing skills in Outlook, Excel, Word, and proficiency in operating smartphones/tablets, uploading PDF files, and documents.
• Working knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
• Strong communication proficiency (oral and written), organization skills, technical proficiency, problem-solving/analysis, and sense of urgency.

Physical Work Requirements

• Environment: Operates in a professional office or commercial building environment. May require regular travel between properties in varying weather conditions.
• Physical: Considerable physical activity, including stooping, standing, climbing, and frequently lifting a minimum of 50 lbs. of equipment (e.g., pumps, tools, ladders). Regularly required to crouch and reach to install/move equipment. May involve movement between departments, floors, and properties.
• Must maintain the ability to speak clearly and read/understand information presented orally and in writing.

Schedule

• Typically works business hours based on location assigned but may require shift work (first, second, or third shift) or on-call duties.
• May be the only maintenance staff member on duty during certain shifts.
• May require extended periods without relief when responding to priority/emergency situations, including overtime and after-hours/weekend work.
• Must be willing and able to support after-hours/weekend building-related activity and respond to client callbacks for repairs or emergencies.

Pay

$34.00 - $40.00 per hour.
