Job Summary/Basic Function

Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLS) Lab/Teaching assistants help in maintaining the labs used for student training in the department. They assist with the preparation of media and reagents, maintain lab equipment, and support instructors in teaching lab skills to students. This is a pooled position; applicants are selected from the pool as positions become available.

Required Qualifications

  • Current MLS student accepted to the MLS program
  • Completed 1 to 2 semesters of MLS Laboratory sections
  • Experience working with various types of lab equipment and analyzers

Physical Requirements of this position

  • Heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects

Visual Acuity Requirements including color, depth perception and field of vision

Required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; using a computer terminal; extensive reading

The conditions the worker will be subject to in this position

  • Proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals
  • Exposure to fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation
