Mission Support Specialist

About the Role

These positions are located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, OPLA Legal OPS. Multiple locations are available for selection, but you may only select one. These are non-bargaining unit positions.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a subject matter expert on assigned administrative matters.
  • Conducts or participates in the evaluation of administrative programs, concerning the efficiency and effectiveness of program operations.
  • Maintains a high level of analytical ability to identify issues, recommend actions, and re-engineer processes.
  • Applies a wide range of administrative programs, concepts, laws, policies, practices, and analytical diagnostic methods and techniques to address substantive matters that contain several interrelated issues.

Requirements

You must be a U.S. citizen to apply for this position. You must successfully pass a background investigation and a drug screen. Males born after 12/31/59 must certify registration with Selective Service. Unless otherwise noted, you must meet all requirements by the closing date of the announcement. This is a full-time permanent position (Career/Career-Conditional appointment). Upon appointment, you may be required to serve a one-year probationary period.

GS-09 Grade Level

Experience: One year of specialized experience at the GS-07 level, including:

  • Carrying out assignments in conformance with policies and practices.
  • Exercising judgment in selecting and applying guidelines.
  • Applying knowledge of logistics and procurement management.
  • Identifying issues and choosing appropriate approaches.

Education: Master’s degree or 2 years of graduate-level education.

Combination: Mix of education and experience.

GS-11 Grade Level

Experience: One year of specialized experience at the GS-09 level, including:

  • Monitoring administrative issues (budget, personnel, travel, etc.).
  • Exercising judgment in applying and modifying guidelines.
  • Identifying and analyzing administrative problems.
  • Analyzing issues and choosing courses of action.

Education: Ph.D. or 3 years of graduate-level education.

Combination: Mix of education and experience.
