Misdemeanor/Level 6 Deputy Prosecuting Attorney

About the role

This position offers the opportunity to work for Indiana’s largest prosecutor’s office, develop trial attorney skills, and receive mentorship from experienced prosecutors. We seek passionate individuals dedicated to seeking justice and improving community safety as Misdemeanor/Level 6 Deputy Prosecutors.

Responsibilities

• Represent the State of Indiana in all stages of criminal prosecution for Misdemeanors and Level 6 Felonies in Marion County Criminal and Juvenile Courts.
• Review evidentiary and forensic reports.
• Identify and interview victims and witnesses.
• Prepare and provide discovery to defense counsel.
• Litigate evidentiary and non-evidentiary motions.
• Review case files, applicable statutes, and case law.
• Determine appropriate recommendations for case resolution.
• Handle jury trials and court trials.
• Collaborate with Victim Advocates and Latino Services Teams.
• Communicate with law enforcement, court personnel, and defense counsel at local, state, and federal levels.
• Adhere to Marion County Prosecutor’s personnel policies, particularly regarding confidentiality.
• Attend required trainings.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Doctorate of Jurisprudence (J.D.).
• Active Indiana State Bar admission in good standing.
• Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, procedures, and legal precedents.
• Proficiency in legal research and resources.
• Strong analytical skills to evaluate complex legal problems and precedents.
• Ability to tactfully engage with officials and stakeholders to resolve disputes.
• Capable of performing essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
