General Description

The Marketing & Multimedia Specialist – Public Health (MMS-PH) supports the ATCPHD Senior Leadership Team in marketing and public relations efforts. Key responsibilities include handling media requests, creating publications, taking photographs, shooting and editing video, and coordinating updates of the City of Abilene Public Health website.

This position exercises no supervision.

Important And Essential Duties

  • Support the ATCPHD Senior Leadership Team in all marketing and public relations aspects of the Public Health Department including special projects.
  • Aid in preparing materials and media needed for Health Advisory Meetings.
  • Create marketing topics for education and awareness using social media; assist the grant manager to maintain the Public Health Department’s website; prepare posts for approval and monitor and respond to social media inquiries.
  • Monitor daily activity on various platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, etc.)
  • Work with ATCPHD senior leadership team and grants teams to plan content and create marketing materials in response to program needs and current events.
  • Operate a motor vehicle to attend various department events to take photos and videos and attend offsite meetings, trainings/conferences, and outreach events.
  • Ensure the department's media (internal and external) adheres to the city's branding and logo guidelines.
  • Perform other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Knowledge

  • Variety of software systems including Adobe Suite, Microsoft Office, Canva, Sprout and other web design and social media management tools.
  • Cameras and editing software (both still and video).
  • AP style of writing for publications.
  • Basic marketing principles.
  • Health information management, basic office skills, administrative principles, procedures and practices.

Skills

  • Graphic design and layout techniques.

  • Videography and non-linear editing.

  • Act as a point of contact and lead for public health event planning committees.
  • Maintain confidentiality and perform responsible administrative tasks.
  • Use office systems such as Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, and Powerpoint and Internet-based applications such as Office 365.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, both internally and externally.

Experience And Training Guidelines

  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience working with video, editing software, social media, and/or television programming is preferred.
  • An Associate’s degree with two years of related experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in Digital Arts/Graphic Design, Media Communications, Marketing, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university, is preferred.

Special Requirements

  • HIPAA Compliance training is required within sixty (60) days of employment.
  • Ability to work flexible hours on an as-needed basis including mornings, nights, and weekends (although most work is Monday-Friday 8-5).
  • Work environment includes the possibility of working outdoors in extreme heat and cold.
  • Ability to travel to other work locations.
  • With or without accommodation, the overall strength demand of the position during a typical workday is Medium – lifting no more than 50 pounds; carrying up to 25 pounds.
