Mineral Resources Inspector 1 - 20086652 (Oil & Gas, NE Ohio)

We are seeking passionate people who enjoy the outdoors and want to play a key role as a Mineral Resources Inspector within the Division of Oil and Gas Resources Management, headquartered at the Uniontown Office (3575 Forest Lake Drive, Suite 150, Uniontown, Ohio 44685). Residency Requirement: This position services Ashtabula and Trumbull counties. Any applicant accepting an offer must physically reside in Ashtabula, Trumbull, or a contiguous county (Lake, Geauga, Portage, or Mahoning) within 180 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Receive training and instruction to inspect various oil and gas activities for compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations in an assigned geographical region.
• Investigate orphan well and landowner complaints regarding pollution or contamination from oilfield wastes; complete referrals; interview parties and witnesses; gather records and documentation (e.g., photos, drilling data, cement records, electric logs, hydrogen sulfide [H2S]).
• Oversee drilling, casing, cementing, plugging, production, and transporter activities to protect natural resources and public safety.
• Collect evidence and make recommendations for corrective action; issue notices of violation and prepare evidence and reports for administrative, civil, or criminal prosecution.
• Act as a liaison with other local, county, state, and federal officials.
• Travel to field sites for inspections and be available 24/7 to respond to calls or site inspections.

Requirements

Upon completion of a one-year probationary period, employees will be automatically reassigned to Mineral Resources Inspector 2.

• Completion of an undergraduate core program in natural science (e.g., geology, chemistry, hydrology, biology, agronomy).
• 1 course or 3 months of experience in public relations or communications.
• 1 course or 3 months of experience in the operation of a personal computer.
• Must provide own transportation and possess a valid driver’s license.

Note: New hires must submit to urinalysis prior to appointment to test for illegal drug use. A positive test result will disqualify an applicant from employment.

Unusual Working Conditions

• Requires travel and field inspections in inclement weather, on rough terrain, and in heavy vegetation while carrying testing equipment weighing up to 20 lbs.
• Exposure to loud noises, dirt, mud, toxic substances, blasting, and potentially dangerous conditions at mine/well sites.
• High percentage of time spent alone in an automobile in remote areas.
• On-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; works around heavy equipment.

Pay

Starting hourly pay of $26.54 with multiple pay increases over the first 5.5 years, reaching $34.53 per hour. Cost-of-living adjustments (COLA) may apply. Longevity pay supplements begin after five years of state service. Refer to the OCSEA pay range schedule and longevity rates.

Schedule

Full-time, 8 AM–5 PM, subject to change. On-call availability required 24/7.
