Mineral Resources Inspector 1 - 20080509 (Oil & Gas)

Residency Requirement: This position services Champaign, Clark, Logan, Madison, Miami, Shelby, and Union counties. Any applicant accepting an offer must physically reside in one of these counties or a contiguous county within 180 days of employment.

About the Role

This position involves training and instruction in the following areas:

• Inspects various oil and gas activities for compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations in an assigned geographical region.
• Investigates orphan well and landowner complaints regarding pollution/contamination of natural resources from oilfield wastes; completes referrals; interviews parties and witnesses; gathers records and documentation (e.g., photos, drilling data, cement records, electric logs, hydrogen sulfide [H2S]).
• Oversees drilling, casing, cementing, plugging, production, and transporter activities to protect natural resources and public safety.
• Collects evidence and makes recommendations for corrective action.
• Issues notices of violation and prepares evidence and reports necessary for administrative, civil, or criminal prosecution.
• Acts as a liaison with other local, county, state, and federal officials.
• Requires travel to field sites to conduct inspections and availability 24 hours/7 days per week to respond to calls and/or site inspections.

Unusual Working Conditions

• Requires travel and field inspections in inclement weather, on rough terrain, and in heavy vegetation while carrying testing equipment weighing up to 20 lbs.
• Exposure to loud noises, dirt, mud, toxic substances, blasting, and potentially dangerous conditions at mine/well sites.
• Spends a high percentage of time alone in an automobile in remote areas.
• On call 24 hours, 7 days per week; works around heavy equipment.

Pay

Starting hourly pay of $25.77/hr with multiple pay increases over the first 5.5 years of service, reaching $33.52/hr. Cost-of-living adjustments (COLA) may also apply. Longevity pay supplements begin after five years of state service. Refer to the OCSEA pay range schedule and longevity rates.

Requirements

Upon completion of a one-year probationary period, employees will be reassigned to Mineral Resources Inspector 2.

• Completion of an undergraduate core program in natural science (e.g., geology, chemistry, hydrology, biology, agronomy).
• 1 course or 3 months of experience in public relations or communications.
• 1 course or 3 months of experience in the operation of a personal computer.
• Must be able to provide own transportation and possess a valid driver’s license.

Note: New hires must submit to urinalysis prior to appointment to test for illegal drug use. A positive test result will disqualify the applicant from employment.
