Momentum Indoor Climbing is a community‑driven indoor climbing company with locations across Utah, Texas, and Washington. Founded in Utah, Momentum was created to inspire and empower people through climbing, fitness, and connection. About the Role
Gym staff are the heart of the customer experience. As the first and last person guests interact with, you help create a community where climbers feel welcomed, supported, and excited to return. This role combines customer service, climbing instruction, sales, facility operations, and safety. You should notice what needs to be done, take initiative, enjoy helping others, and want to contribute to a strong climbing community.
Responsibilities
- Welcome every guest as they enter and leave the facility.
- Make customers feel cared for, connected, and valued.
- Build genuine connections with members and guests through conversation and engagement.
- Answer phone calls, resolve customer concerns, and serve as a knowledgeable resource.
- Give facility tours and share enthusiasm for climbing.
- Educate and support customers through belay instruction and Experience Classes.
- Balance the needs of multiple customers while maintaining a positive and welcoming environment.
- Represent Momentum in a friendly, authentic, and professional manner, wearing designated staff apparel and maintaining a clean appearance.
- Arrive on time, be reliable, and pitch in when the team needs additional support.
- Know basic business information (phone number, website, address, hours, gym statistics, pricing).
- Assist members with memberships, including sign‑ups, freezes, and cancellations.
- Verify that everyone entering the facility has appropriate access and operate the gym management software and point‑of‑sale system.
- Stay informed about upcoming events, programs, and seasonal offerings and recommend them to customers.
- Monitor climbing areas, identify unsafe situations, and ensure customers follow gym rules and safety standards.
- Verify that every visitor unaccompanied by staff has a current waiver.
- Administer top‑rope and lead belay/climbing tests.
- Educate customers when unsafe climbing or belaying practices are observed and take corrective action as needed.
- Flexibly address unexpected tasks, such as fixing equipment, cleaning, or assisting coworkers, with a positive attitude.
Requirements
- At least 1 year of climbing experience.
- Strong enthusiasm for climbing and the climbing community.
- Customer service and/or instructional experience.
- Basic phone and computer skills; familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google Drive.
- Current First Aid & CPR certification, or ability to obtain certification within the first 3 months of employment.
- Preferred: Experience with bouldering, sport climbing, and traditional climbing.
- Preferred: Momentum Lead Climbing certification.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Work comfortably in a loud, active, and sometimes chaotic environment.
- Move up and down climbing walls and feel comfortable working at height.
- Assist with or perform a rescue of a stranded climber on the wall.
- Stand and walk for extended periods on uneven and unstable surfaces.
- Regularly lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Visually assess details such as knots, buckles, equipment, and belay technique.
- Give clear instructions and direction to individuals and large groups.
Schedule
Gym staff shifts are scheduled at various times within our operating hours: Monday–Friday 9:00 AM–11:00 PM; Saturday–Sunday 7:45 AM–10:00 PM. Availability requirements may vary based on facility needs.
Pay
Competitive hourly wage.
